Overview

Intense debate on the future of Sudan continues ahead of presidential elections in 2015. There is domestic and international pressure to find a comprehensive approach to end the conflicts in Darfur, Southern Kordofan and Blue Nile, while negotiations on the national dialogue between the government and opposition groups have produced little progress so far. Achieving lasting peace, reconciliation and genuine political change will require the broad-based participation of Sudanese society, as well as the inclusion of opposition groups that currently sit outside of the formal negotiations, such as the National Umma Party and Sudan Revolutionary Front.

As a leading member of the opposition and former prime minister of Sudan, Imam Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi will outline his vision for the future of a peaceful and democratic Sudan.
